It gives the company commercial rights in the 34 African countries that have ratified the Yamoussoukro Decision, a key agreement to liberalise air transport across the continent and pave the way for the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).

The company has used platforms like the 2025 Africa CEO Forum (ACF) held in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to push for a unified aviation policy that tears down bureaucratic and colonial-era restrictions still dividing African airspace.
Achum passionately addressed the need to rethink the continent’s aviation model in his keynote at the forum.
“Outdated agreements and policies still segment our skies. Africa needs a unified, modern aviation strategy built around accessibility, innovation, and collaboration,” he declared.
He further emphasised the urgency of this mission: “We’re a continent of over 1.4 billion people. Our cities are growing, industries are expanding, and innovation hubs are thriving. If we get aviation right, we unlock a future where Africans can move freely, trade easily, and connect deeply.”
Growth Beyond the Runway
VivaJets’ evolution isn’t just about regulatory wins and advocacy; it’s also been a period of strong business growth and cultural innovation. In just two years, the company has expanded its fleet, grown its global presence, and introduced fresh ideas that blend luxury aviation with African identity.
In November 2024, the company made a creative splash by unveiling a bespoke cabin crew uniform designed by renowned fashion designer Loza Maleombho during Lagos Fashion Week. This move captured both style and cultural pride. By April 2025, VivaJets launched Above, its official travel and lifestyle magazine, which serves as both an in-flight publication and a creative expression of African excellence in travel and leisure.
