Governor Fubara Vows To Open Coastal Region For Tourism, Economic Growth

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to developing the coastal areas of Andoni, positioning the region as a new hub for tourism and economic growth in the state.

The governor highlighted the ongoing 13.52-kilometre Ngo-Atlantic-Oyorokoto Road as a visionary project designed to harness the full potential of the state’s blue economy.

This assertion was made on October 28, following an inspection visit to the project site in Andoni Local Government Area. The new road, which is being handled by Monier Construction Company (MCC), is being carved through difficult coastal terrain to provide access to a newly identified beachfront on the Atlantic Ocean.

Fubara clarified that a strategic discovery led to the expansion of the project’s scope. While the original goal was to build a road to the popular Oyorokoto Town and its beach, his administration opted to create a new route to open another pristine beachfront.

“We are doing another inspection today. This particular one is a virgin road, 13.52 kilometres of a new pathway to the blue economy,” Governor Fubara stated.

“Initially, we were constructing a road to Oyorokoto Beach, one of the finest tourist centres in this area. But as we progressed, we discovered another beach directly facing the Atlantic Ocean. It became clear that we shouldn’t limit development to just one site. We want to harness this new beachfront as part of our broader plan to develop the blue economy.”

The Governor emphasised that the completed road will significantly improve access for coastal communities, stimulate tourism, and boost economic activities, thereby increasing revenue for Rivers State.

He acknowledged the significant challenges posed by the area’s difficult terrain but praised the contractor for its dedication. Governor Fubara expressed confidence that the project would be successfully completed and commissioned by March of next year.

“You can see for yourself, it’s a brand-new road in challenging terrain, just like the one we saw yesterday. But I strongly believe we will overcome it.

From what we’ve seen today, the contractor, MCC, is doing their best, and by next year, hopefully by March, we’ll have the cause to commission this project and give God all the glory,” the Governor affirmed

A statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, noted that Governor Fubara also visited Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area. While there, he assessed the progress of the 5.2km Kalaibiama-Epellema road project, which includes a 450-meter bridge, on the Epellema axis.
