Marriott International Introduces Connect Responsibly: A Sustainable Solution for Greener Meetings

As part of its Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, Marriott International has launched a new service called “Connect Responsibly,” designed to assist meeting planners in incorporating environmentally conscious practices into their events at specific properties.

What Is Marriott Connect Responsibly? An Overview of the New Sustainability Program

The Connect Responsibly program is an initiative by Marriott International aimed at promoting sustainable event planning. It provides customers with detailed Meeting Impact Reports that quantify the environmental impact of events, including assessments of carbon and water footprints. Additionally, the program offers alternatives for purchasing carbon credits to offset emissions. This initiative will be available internationally at participating locations by the end of October, ensuring comprehensive access upon full implementation.

Key Features and Benefits for Meeting Planners

There is nothing like connecting in person, and doing so responsibly makes it much better. With the Connect Responsibly program, we are giving our conferencing and events customers options to understand their meetings’ impacts better as we collectively strive to create a more resilient future for travel,” said Erika Alexander, Chief Global Officer, Global Operations, Marriott International.

Fuelled by the growing demand for meeting solutions that address sustainability and are informed by research and consumer insights from its global pilot program, the property group is focused on offering a Meeting Impact Report through the Connect Responsibly program. This user-friendly report, available after an event, is designed to capture event details, property-specific sustainability practices implemented, and the event’s carbon and water footprints, calculated through established hospitality industry methodologies. Marriott expects the Meeting Impact Report to be available in 11 different languages based on location.

“Our customers are eager to participate in sustainability efforts. Connect Responsibly expands ongoing initiatives and strengthens our efforts focused on sustainability in hospitality,” said Tammy Routh, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Marriott International.

Marriott’s Commitment to Sustainability Through Connect Responsibly

This initiative aligns perfectly with Marriott’s broader commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing sustainability within the hospitality industry. In April 2024, Marriott International became the largest global hospitality company to receive approval from the Science-Based Targets initiative for its emissions reduction goals, a testament to our unwavering dedication to sustainability.
