Infinity Health Africa Joins Google AI GovTech Accelerator to Transform Healthcare

by Oluwafemi Kehinde

Lagos-based regulatory technology and market access firm Infinity Health Africa has earned a coveted spot in the inaugural Google for Startups Growth Academy: AI for GovTech program—a rigorous three-month accelerator designed to empower ventures harnessing artificial intelligence to enhance public services.

Led by Irene Nwaukwa, Infinity Health Africa is on a mission to dismantle the bureaucratic barriers that have long stifled Africa’s healthcare landscape. Infinity Health Africa is providing solutions to the numerous healthcare companies grappling with the labyrinth of product registrations, licensing requirements, and post-marketing surveillance across the continent.

According to Tech Digest, Infinity Health Africa, chosen from a competitive pool alongside 24 other startups from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, stood out for its flagship platform, ONBOARD. This automated AI-driven tool revolutionises the regulatory process, simplifying everything from initial product approvals to ongoing compliance monitoring. By guiding healthcare firms through Africa’s diverse regulatory environments, ONBOARD not only eases market entry for newcomers but also levels the playing field for established players.

Adding to Nigeria’s strong showing, fellow countryman E-GovConnect, a data-leveraging health tech innovator, also secured a place in this pioneering cohort, underscoring the nation’s rising prominence in AI-powered governance solutions.

“This recognition from Google is more than just an accolade; it affirms our vision to make market access truly democratic,” Nwaukwa reflects. “Through AI, we’re ensuring that regulatory compliance isn’t a privilege reserved for giants but a tool available to every player in Africa’s vibrant healthcare ecosystem, from ambitious startups to multinational distributors.”

This recognition arrives shortly after a strategic alliance was forged two months ago with IntraHub Africa, a leading provider of pharmacovigilance services. Together, they’re automating compliance and quality controls in Africa’s booming pharmaceutical industry, where rapid growth demands equally swift safeguards against risks.

As part of the accelerator, Infinity Health Africa will receive tailored support to amplify the AI sophistication of its regtech platform. Catering to a broad spectrum of clients—manufacturers and distributors of pharmaceuticals, medical devices, nutraceuticals, diagnostics, and cutting-edge healthtech ventures—the company is poised to scale its impact.

This mentorship couldn’t come at a better juncture, aligning with Africa’s surging demand for efficient, tech-enabled public health systems.

From its inception in April 2024, Infinity Health Africa has hit the ground running, overseeing over 200 product registrations, securing three manufacturing facility permits, and facilitating the entry of four enterprises into the Nigerian market. This traction mirrors the broader explosion in Africa’s digital health sector, forecasted to balloon to $16.6 billion by 2030 amid a wave of technological adoption.

Nwaukwa emphasises the timing’s serendipity: “We’re gearing up for a $1 million pre-seed funding round to penetrate deeper into African markets. Google’s programme opens doors to investors, policymakers, and AI luminaries worldwide, accelerating our journey toward a more inclusive healthcare future.”

Nigeria is experiencing a significant surge—or spate—in AI-driven healthcare and regulatory technology initiatives, fueled by a combination of entrepreneurial energy, government support, and global investments. As of 2025, the country boasts a thriving ecosystem of health tech startups that leverage AI for diagnostics, patient management, regulatory compliance, and telemedicine.

Some key examples are Famasi, which uses AI to make ordering and delivering medicine easier in Lagos; KOYO’s app that helps solve medical shortages by working with UK companies; Myltura’s platform that provides remote healthcare and integrates data; and Evet, which combines agriculture and health by using AI to predict livestock diseases to improve food security and public health.

This wave is amplified by accelerators like Google’s AI for GovTech, which has spotlighted Nigerian firms such as Infinity Health Africa and E-GovConnect, as well as broader programmes that select multiple African AI startups.

The Nigerian digital health market is projected to reach $1.3 billion by 2025, driven by trends such as AI diagnostics and data analytics. The national budget has allocated ₦2.48 trillion (5.18%) to health, up from previous years but still below the target.

These advancements in AI-driven healthcare and regulatory tech, as exemplified by Infinity Health Africa, hold substantial potential to reshape Africa’s and Nigeria’s tourism sectors, particularly through the lens of medical tourism. In Nigeria, where outbound medical tourism drains an estimated $1-2 billion annually as citizens seek treatment abroad for complex procedures, AI tools can curb this exodus by enhancing local diagnostics, predictive care, and regulatory efficiency, making high-quality healthcare more accessible and affordable domestically.

This could save billions for the economy, redirecting funds toward infrastructure and boosting domestic tourism spending. On a continental scale, AI’s role in enhancing disease monitoring, resource allocation, and telemedicine could transform underserved regions, potentially attracting inbound medical tourists seeking cost-effective, technology-enhanced treatments and positioning Africa as a competitive alternative to Asia or Europe.

For Nigeria specifically, streamlined regulations via platforms like ONBOARD could accelerate local drug production and health tech innovation, reducing reliance on imports and fostering medical hubs in cities like Lagos or Abuja that attract regional visitors.

However, challenges like AI integration barriers and policy gaps must be addressed to realise this fully; if successful, they could elevate tourism revenue by integrating health services with cultural and leisure offerings, creating a holistic “health and wellness” tourism niche. Overall, the initiative could add billions to the GDP through retained healthcare spending and increased tourist inflows, while also improving public health outcomes.
