Sanwo-Olu Commissions Badagry Roads to Boost Tourism, Pledges Inclusive Growth

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on July 6, commissioned a network of roads in the Olorunda Local Council Development Area and Badagry Local Council, stating that such projects are foundational to building a vibrant tourism sector.

He commended residents of Badagry for the partnership and community support that helped ensure the successful and timely delivery of the road projects.

“As we promised, we are using improved road infrastructure to enhance trade and commerce, stimulate the tourism sector, and, most importantly, open up remote areas. We are convinced that infrastructural development remains the foundation for a vibrant tourism sector.

“As a key aspect of inclusive governance, we have continued to provide infrastructure that supports businesses, creates employment, and improves the living conditions of our people.

“To further demonstrate and deepen our commitment to infrastructural development throughout the entire state, we have strategically focused on harnessing the immense tourism and economic growth potential that Badagry uniquely offers. 

“Recognising Badagry’s rich cultural heritage, strategic location, and natural attractions, we have prioritised the provision of adequate, modern infrastructure that not only supports tourism but also stimulates broader socio-economic development in the region.”

Sanwo-Olu further said, “This approach aligns with our broader vision of inclusive growth, where no community or area is overlooked or left behind.

“Whether through roads, drainage systems, or other essential amenities, we are committed to reaching every nook and cranny of the state. Our resolve to achieve this mission is unwavering, as we believe that true and sustainable development can only be realised when it is truly inclusive and touches the lives of all citizens.”

It is a known fact that an accessible tourist site stimulates the growth of a whole ecosystem of local businesses. It creates an immediate demand for hotels, guesthouses, restaurants, and local transportation. It empowers tour guides, artisans, and farmers who can now sell their crafts and produce to a steady stream of visitors. This, in turn, creates jobs, reduces rural-urban migration, and significantly boosts the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
